Pete the Cat was Rockin' in our Classroom!!!

On Friday, we had a rockin' good time in our classroom!  I introduced the students to one cool cat, Pete the Cat.  Pete the Cat  rocking in his school shoes. Pete discovers the library, the lunchroom, the playground, and lots of other cool places at school. And no matter where he goes, Pete never stops moving and grooving and singing his song . . . because it’s all good. We sequenced the story and loved singin' his song!!
We also read Pete the Cat: Rocking In My School Shoes! Pete has some cool new white shoes, but each time he steps in something the shoes change color.  We colored our own shoes and made a graph of the colors.  We learned a log of information by creating a graph.  This was a rockin' day in room #006!

Freedom Week

This week we have been learning about our freedom, the Constitution, the Texas pledge and the U.S. pledge.  We learned that the Constitution sets the rules that govern our country.  The Texas pledge and the U.S. pledge are promises made to our state and country.  Here are the flags that we made to go along with this weeks unit.

Go Away Big Green Monster

This is actually from our classroom last Friday.  We worked with the literature, Go Away Big Green Monster  by Ed Emberly.  This book is a clever series of die-cut pages that lets children construct and then deconstruct a big green monster. The book starts with a black page, and two round eyes gleaming through the text. "Big Green Monster has two big yellow eyes." Each page adds a new adjective-laden element, including a "long bluish-greenish nose" and "scraggy purple hair" until the culmination of effects prompts a response of, "YOU DON'T SCARE ME! SO GO AWAY . . . ." Each subsequent page subtracts one of the scary pieces until the last page is entirely black, featuring the words, "and DON'T COME BACK! Until I say so."  The kids really had a great time reading along with me.  We sequenced the events in the story and then constructed our own BIG GREEN MONSTERS to go along.

Fall Picture Day is coming up!!

On September 29th we will be taking our Fall Pictures.  These are the pictures that will appear in our yearbook.  All students must be wearing a school appropriate uniform for the picture.  So don't forget to fix that hair and bring a smile.

Fall Festival is just around the corner!!

Can you believe that Fall is almost here? I love fall and I love carnivals.  I guess this has to be my favorite season.  Our Fall Festival is going to be October 7.  I just sent home notices today that have all of the information.  Please sign up to help run our booth and make this a successful PTO fundraiser for our students.  We really have an easy booth to run this year and it is popular among the little kids.  The Lollipop Tree is where they draw out a sucker and depending on the color at the tip of the sucker determines what prize they receive.  Now how easy can that be?  Sign up now!!! There are also a number of items that we are asking you to contribute: An item for out silent auction basket.  I chose the Pamper Me basket.  This could be anything that you would use to pamper yourself; lotions, perfumes, nail polish, even chocolate and Dr. Pepper are a pamper me product in my house.  You will also need to send a bag of individually wrapped candy and a baked item for the cake walk.  The baked item can be store bought and shouldn't be sent to school until the day before or the day of the carnival to prevent spoiling.  Remember, this PTO fundraiser raises money to benefit your students and our school.  Not to mention it is a pretty fun family event for you and your family to enjoy.  Please plan to participate and attend.

Welcome all Kindergarten Grandparents!!!

Join us for a Grandparents’ Day luncheon – Friday 9/9.  Our lunch time is at 11:15.  Check in at the office and meet us in the lunchroom.  After lunch, Grandparents may join their grandchild in the library for free reading time (background checks are required).  Hope to see lots of grandparents joining us.  In years past, we have had a great turn out and I expect we will see it that way again.  Lunch for adults will be $3.00.
